The fencing around Jefferson Park worked. It was a slow process to get them to move on.They went back home or to another vulnerable city. Move on or else was the only choice given to them by the Eugene Sheriff's Dept. They are sending them back to the bewildering Wilderness of Life.
Eugene returned to the quiet college town it was designed to be despite the liberal demands. They had their say.
Now comes the sanity of decent city leadership.
I kept my distance by living at the famous Eugene Mission. Forty acres given by a horse rancher who had sympathy for the homeless. Two huge barns filled with donations was a big part of the deal. A huge dorm for homeless men was built and instantly occupied to full capacity. The displaced women's dorm came later. All was given by the good citizens of Eugene. There are even accomodations for children.
I met Javier who introduced me to Clay. Clay had a room for rent in a shared room. At least I am not living with the 150 homeless and struggling men at the Mission. Smokers be gone.
Nearly 2 yrs I spent at this Mission it was not bad not good. Three square meals a day, showering everyday was all part of getting savvy about Eugene. New duds for finding a job was the object. Surviving is the thing for all who come to Eugene and have nothing but a hungry belly
The move to a Clean & Sober Living house registered with the city was the next step. These houses cater to felons, drunks and addicts who have sworn off their addictions and criminal behavior for good. What can go wrong will go wrong
Things are still not quite right even at Clay's house. Better here than there. Only 550 a month and you learn to feed yourself. Food stamps are the salvation of poor Americans with injuries like I have. It is super hard for DHS to even give us158 bucks a month for food called EBT Electronic Benefits Transaction. This needs to change immediately. The price of food went up 25 per cent.
It is so hot for the time being as my birthday approaches. July 13th is the date. I missed perfect 7's by one day being that my Mother was induced.
Today's temp was 102 same tomorrow and Tuesday. They are saying Climate Change. Scare tactics do not work for the savvy. The Hurricane has a lot to do with the weather. It sucks moisture from everywhere to feed that 6 inch deluge in Houston.
Look at the curve of the Gulf of Mexico. Hurricanes have shaped the shoreline for eons. The more things change the more they stay the same.
You are welcome.
